The express industry can be traced back to the United States in the 1960s with its core business being to deliver documents, parcels and commodities on the next day or within the designated time limit (usually two to three days) offering high added value and door-to-door services. The express industry has developed rapidly because it could provide guaranteed goods transportation within fixed time which postal services or freight forwarding couldn’t. Back in the 1970s, the express industry saw a window of opportunity for rapid growth as a result of the US loosening its control on air freight. The industry has evolved since the start of the 1980’s into a mix of express, e-commerce, logistics, finance, insurance and agency, which is an expansion of its business offering from the US to the world and has become an important backbone to the development of the global economy and trade as the market develops and the clients’ demands diversify.
