Thus I could gain experiences as well as lay the foundation for my future development. The other choice is going back to China where I could practice in real life and work with all things I’ve learned aboard, seeking break-through in creation works with elements produced by a combination of Chinese and western traditional cultures.

这次展览是我第一次参与布置的展览，其实难度并不大，因为作品和展厅都已经找好了，我要做的只是用作品将展厅装饰起来。我先以为非常容易，后来才发现其实不然。整个展览的布局分配，还有打灯，包括挂画都是门技术活。这次策展开发了我对艺术展览策划的兴趣，同时我还感觉到策划人的工作非常难，涉及了方方面面的工作。首先策展人一定要提出好的方案，而具有学术高度的方案就必须做大量的研究。根据方案选取艺术家，便涉及到策展人的审美判断性，这就需要策展人经常走访艺术家工作室去了解作者的创作动机和艺术语言。另外，制定展览预算也是策展人的重要工作，根据展览的规模拟定作品运输、人员工资等细节的费用。之后还要找赞助商和展览场地。除此之外，展出作品的摆放，画册的设计，撰写展览前言，有义务向公众解说展览的情况和意义，还可能面临很多不可预知的情况等。因此策展人要精心规划展览的各个细节。总之策展人除了案头的工作外，还要进行实际考察。
It was the first exhibition I helped in planning. At first I thought it won’t be difficult, as all the works and the exhibition hall were already there, and all I needed to do was to decorate the exhibition hall with the works. However, the whole process proved otherwise. It required a lot of technique in all aspects from the whole layout of the exhibition, the lighting, and even the hanging of paintings. This experience has developed an interest in me about art exhibition planning. At the same time, I learned that the work of a planner is indeed very difficult and involves all aspects of work. First, the planner must come up with a good plan, and a good plan in academic level requires a lot of research. He must choose artists according to the plan, so he also needs a good aesthetic judgment, and has to pay a lot of visits to artists’ studios to learn about their motives of creation and artistic languages. Second, a major aspect of his work is to develop a budget for the show. He has to estimate all the detailed expenses such as transportation costs and the wages of the staff according to the scale of the exhibition. Then he has to find sponsors and exhibition sites. Apart from these, there are the arrangement of exhibits, the design of the album, the writing of the foreword, the interpretation of the exhibition and its meaning to the public and unpredictable situations. Therefore, an exhibition planner must plan every detail with intensive care, and work both on the table and on the foot.
