玉雕是中国最古老的雕刻门类之一，玉石经加工雕琢成为精美的工艺品，称为玉雕。北京玉雕兴盛于康乾时期，尤其是乾隆时期，品种、数量之多，作品样式之繁，琢玉技艺之精湛都达到了空前高度。北京玉雕融南、北玉作之美于一炉，注重造型，在制作上量料取材，因材施艺，尤以俏色见长，整体呈现出宫廷艺术的风格。
Jade carving comes as one of the oldest carving classes in China. Jade is processed and carved to exquisite artware, and therefore named as jade carving. Flourishing in the Kangxi-Qianlong period, especially the Qianlong period, Beijing jade carving is defined by its unprecedented varieties and quantity, complex style and exquisiteness of the jade carving artistry. Beijing jade carving represents a mix of jade products produced in southern and northern China, and focuses on modeling. When it comes to manufacturing, materials are carefully selected and technique is exclusively applied based on the materials, showing the skillful utilization of jade color, and the style of palace art on the whole.

早在商周时期，牙雕工艺就极其发达，至清代，牙雕工艺鼎盛一时，形成了广州、苏州、北京三大牙雕产地，风格上也分为南北两派。北派即指北京牙雕，以宫廷制品为主。北京牙雕深受宫廷文化影响，造型古朴、典雅，工艺精细、润洁、打磨光滑，整体呈现出工艺精湛、富丽堂皇、精致考究的独特风貌。
Ivory carving craftsmanship was rather developed as early as in the Shang and Zhou Dynasties, and prospered in the Qing Dynasty, when three major ivory carving production bases took shape in Guangzhou, Suzhou and Beijing, and southern and northern styles appeared. Northern style refers to Beijing ivory carving, with royal products at the core. Deeply affected by the palace culture, Beijing ivory carving is manifested by primitive yet elegant modeling, and refined, clean and smoothly polished craft, demonstrating the superb process, gorgeous, delicate, refined and unique features on the whole.
